I've been making award predictions for many years. The Oscar section consists of a series of charts, mapping the progress of contenders in each of the Academy Award categories for the 2002-2003 movie season.

It's Official

I am now an "official" actor. My B.A. in Theatre Arts was issued to me today from San Jose State University and my degree should arrive in the mail within the next week. Now, let the jobs commence...

Update

So, I'm 26 today!

I have a Truth (the no smoking campaign) commercial audition Monday afternoon.

Even more exciting is my first audition for something other than a commercial. Monday morning I'll be meeting with the head of casting at Comedy Central for various potential projects including The Man Show.

The site I produced for the Nine cast recording is online.

The framing of my parents second floor is well under way with some progress already on the roof. We estimate about one more year until the completion but it already looks nothing less than extremely impressive.

BK Prime Time Airing

Just got word from friends and family in St. Louis and Pittsburgh and St. Louis that the Burger King spot aired in prime time at the tail end of Friends on NBC tonight. That may or may not mean it'll air during Friends on the West Coast but it is the first indication that the spot is running on networks in prime time which is definitely a good thing.

Please do keep letting me know when, where and how you're seeing the spot, if and when you see it. And, again. I'm the guy washing the blue Mustang in the driveway says "mornin" second. :)

The Fire's Ready. So's the Commercial

Well, this weekend seems to have marked the unveiling of the Burger King commercial I filmed last month.. I heard from my dad tonight who saw the commercial when fast forwarding through commercials randomly on Tivo. I went over and sure enough, there it was. After my brother saw it he realized he had actually seen the commercial a couple times already this weekend without realizing it was mine.

The spot is pretty much as I described it. I do indeed have my line. "Mornin." My shining moment. The voice over makes a little more sense. After my neighbor brings his grill to the driveway and sprays it down the voice over is:

"Isn't it nice to see when someone's got their priorities straight? We do at Burger King. So we cook every original Whopper to fire grilled perfection for $1.99. C'mon over. The fire's ready."

"The fire's ready" appears to be Burger King's new slogan and as far as I know this is the first commercial that uses it. So, from now on, if you happen to see this commercial, please do me a favor and jot down when (date and time), where (what city you live in) and how (what channel (not the number, the name of the channel [ie., NBC, CNN, MTV] and the name of the show on that channel) and send it to me in an email, please.

What follows are my predictions for this year's Tony Award nominations, announced
Monday morning the 12th of May. These predictions are for who I believe will be
nominated and not necessarily who I would nominate. They are listed in the order
I feel are most to least likely to be nominated.

Off to NYC...

I'm off to New York City early tomorrow morning through the end of this coming week. I plan on seeing my brother tomorrow evening as well as a bunch of other friends throughout the week. On Monday, I'll be at the cast recording session for Broadway's hit revival of Nine. I see the final press preview of Gypsy on Wednesday and the smash Off-Broadway musical Avenue Q (soon to transfer to Broadway) with the show's lyricist and friend, Jeff Marx. I'm staying with Dax in Brooklyn while I'm in town and will hopefully have a chance to check in here while I'm out and about on that other coast.

Shooting the Burger King spot

Call time was 7:00 in the morning yesterday, Thursday the 24th of April. How in the world I woke up at 4:45am and arrived on set for breakfast is beyond me. Perhaps it had a little do with the fact that this was the first time I'd be back in L.A. working professionally in over ten years?

Last week I auditioned in Santa Monica at a casting agency with a woman my age. The audition called for the two of us to meticulously clean a "car." Five minutes later we were out the door and on to the next audition. I didn't think much of the audition. It wasn't bad in the least. It was pretty standard and life went on. That is until my agent called to confirm my availability for the shoot. When he called he told me instead of washing a car with my girlfriend I'd be washing a car with my son. My son!? Okay, I guess. As is usually the case, there wasn't much consensus as to what the commercial would entail and how I'd be involved. All I knew is I was hired as a principal (lead) actor in a national commercial for Burger King.

Have it My Way!

I just booked a national commercial for Burger King, shooting tomorrow. Apparently, I play a father washing his car with his son. Why in the period of two days I've gotten a beer commercial audition and a national commercial playing a father is beyond me. But I'm back in the saddle again, apparently. Fitting sometime today.

Updated Note: I am now under the impression that I will not be washing a car with my son. Instead, as I originally auditioned last week, I will be washing a car with my girlfriend. I'm not too young for a girlfriend. I've done that one a few times before. :)

The spot apparently starts shooting tomorrow directed by prolific commercial director Joe Pytka (Space Jam, Super Bowl commercial for Pepsi with Britney Spears, music videos for The Beatles and Michael Jackson, etc).

Phew. It's nice to be back! :)

And the Oscar winner is... me!?

As far as I can tell, of the mainstream media and additional Oscar prediction websites, I tied for first place in correctly predicting seventeen of twenty four winners, beating out Entertainment Weekly, the L.A. Times, and Roger Ebert. Thumbs up! More on that here.

Soon I'll have my year in advance predictions posted, starting all over again for next year's awards. Note that last year I called five of this year's major Oscar contenders: Chicago, Gangs of New York, Catch Me If You Can, The Lord of the Rings II and Minority Report. Granted, I also predicted Pinocchio would be a contender. Sue me.

Pizza, Pizza

Now we're talkin... my third commercial callback (out of about ten, so far... a nice callback percentage) is scheduled for tomorrow at 2. This one for the Pizza Hut commercial I first auditioned for on Tuesday. The call sheet said this commercial shoots this coming Monday and Tuesday so decisions should be made quickly...

I've also got a casting appointment on Saturday for a leading role in a new play to be workshopped here in Los Angeles.

Fall Down Go Boom

My computer's processor died while in the process of designing and publishing marketing content for PS Classics' impending, and now past, announcement of recording the new Broadway Revival Cast of Nine With Antonio Banderas and Chita Rivera.

Anyway, I'm now limping along on my laptop and actually am in the process of buying a new computer and just swapping my thankfully still in tact hard drives.

Attention Ground: You Will Be Broken

After far too long of searching for and buying land, designing house, getting permits for house and land, etc... we're finally in the ground breaking phase of my parents' new house down here in Southern California.

I'm sure I'll write much more about progress and what it's taken to get to this point but I figured I might as well start blogging what's going on, even if I've yet to tell the story of what happened when I wasn't writing.
