Today, apparently, wasn't a very bloggy day. It was, however, a very HOT day. It got up to 96 today in San Jose. For San Jose this is major news. It made me very sleepy and I napped for quite a while. Naps are fantastic but now it's 11:11 and I am not sleepy at all. This means I will be up all night. sigh. In other news, we apply for TheHome(tm) tomorrow morning. It's so hard not to count chickens before they're hatched! It's also hard to count sheep when you're not sleepy. Oh well. I forgot to mention something that I did yesterday of great importance. I applied for graduation! This means I have paid for all the little things that go along with graduating from college including incidentals such as my diploma. This does not mean, however, that I will be graduating anytime soon. It does mean that I have completed all of my Theatre Arts coursework and that I will now be told exactly what general education coursework I have yet to take that must be taken before they will send me said diploma. What an interesting analogy! Derek makes a really interesting analogy between freelance design and the relationship rollercoaster, "One of the things that's funny about being a freelancer is how similar it is to dating... I hear that when you meet the right client, you'll know." I've always likened freelance design to that of a professional actor's life. When you're working it's great. You're generally enjoying what you do for a living very much. You're always working in different places, on different projects, with many unique and interesting people. But when you're not working it's not so fun. Always auditioning for that next job and paycheck. At this point in my career, auditioning for my next paycheck isn't neccesary. I've got a great job with great people, benefits, perks, and responsibilities. Take that Planet Weather! Derek, like me, began his full time design duties yesterday. He with Pyra and the Blogger crew and me with SoftDevices and our currently top secret software project. When I first got on the net, when it was in it's infancy, I was an annoying high schooler. Woo-freakin-hoo! I've learned in my professional career that one doesn't take down their site to redesign. Instead, they leave up the current site, redesign, and then unveil said redesign with no downtime, "coming soon", or "under construction" notices. Did that stop me from doing exactly that with my personal site? Of course not! :) I redesigned fairly quickly but came across cross browser issues and just didn't have the time to work them out. There are also unfinished features such as the "next" and "previous" links in the photogallery. The gallery will also be expanded as soon as I can find the time. Speaking of finding time... when I stopped blogging I was in a sort of job interim. I had stopped working at Planet Weather and was, somewhat, looking for full time work in addition to continuing to do freelance design and work on my other sites. Coincidentaly, this weekend I was hired as the full time designer, my official title is "Creative Wizard", at a really neat software company called SoftDevices International. Today is my first day. Send all congratulations to this address. In addition, the other much anticipated big leap in my life is about to take place in that, if all goes as is hoped to go, I'll be moving out of "the nest" very shortly. Perhaps as soon as the first of June. Definitely by July. More news on that coming soon... Ack! Did I just say "coming soon"? Where have I heared that one before!? ;-) So, long story short, sorry to the regular readers who got stuck with one of my "coming soon" pages. The good news is I'm back. The even better news is iminent... There are kinks. There are kinks, indeed. I will work as much as possible to unkink the kinks that are.
